4G vs 5G vs LTE: Today if you open the network settings of your smartphone, you will see many options 4G, 4G LTE, 5G On and 5G Auto. 2G and 3G are almost extinct now, so most phones come with these new network modes. All options provide internet but speed, call quality and battery life depend on which mode you choose.
Choosing the wrong network mode can drain not only the internet but also the battery rapidly. Many times the phone keeps changing networks repeatedly in search of better signal, which leads to problems like call drops and slow browsing.
4G and LTE more reliable in weak 5G signal
If 5G coverage is not stable in your area then 4G and LTE may prove to be better options. These network modes are well balanced for general use. With speeds ranging from 20 Mbps to 100 Mbps, you can watch HD videos, use social media and do daily tasks with ease. The biggest thing is that on 4G and LTE, the phone’s processor works at less pressure, due to which the battery lasts longer.
5G
The biggest strength of 5G is its high speed. In areas with strong coverage it can provide speeds ranging from 500 Mbps to 1 Gbps. 5G On or 5G Only mode can be beneficial for large file downloads, online gaming and high-quality video calls.
However, there is also a risk in 5G Only mode. If you reach an area where the signal is weak then the phone may show no service or the call may get disconnected repeatedly. In this mode, the phone does not automatically switch to 4G, which can cause the battery to drain rapidly as the device continuously searches for a 5G signal.
5G Auto
If you want speed and also want to save battery, then 5G Auto is considered the most sensible option. In this mode, the phone automatically switches between 4G and 5G according to the availability of signal.
When a strong 5G network is available, the phone takes advantage of high speeds. As soon as the signal becomes weak, it shifts to 4G, due to which the connection remains stable and the battery is not affected much.
How to change network mode in Android phone?
First of all open the settings of the phone. Then go to SIM & Mobile Network option. Select the SIM you want to change. After this tap on Network Mode and choose 4G, 5G On or 5G Auto as per your need.
