West Bengal: Cold wave wreaks havoc in West Bengal! Life disrupted due to dense fog, know the latest weather conditions

West Bengal Weather Update: At present, the severe cold in West Bengal has increased the problems of the people. Dense fog has been engulfing many districts of the state including the capital Kolkata since morning. Sun is not visible along with cold winds, due to which the effect of cold is being felt more. After Tuesday, the cold on Wednesday also forced the city residents to shiver.

Temperature continues to drop in Kolkata

The minimum temperature recorded in Kolkata on Wednesday was 10.3 degrees Celsius, which is about 3.7 degrees below normal. A day before this the temperature had fallen to 10.2 degrees Celsius. Despite the slight increase, the effect of cold is clearly visible since morning. The maximum temperature of the day on Tuesday was only 18 degrees Celsius.

According to Alipore Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature may go below 10 degrees in districts like Birbhum, East and West Bardhaman, North and South 24 Parganas, Nadia and Murshidabad. The maximum temperature in Kolkata is also likely to be about 4.5 degrees below normal.

Dense fog warning in North Bengal

An alert has been issued regarding dense fog in many districts of North Bengal. Visibility may drop to 50 meters in some areas of Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Cooch Behar and Alipurduar, due to which road and rail traffic may be affected.

Earlier in 2013, the minimum temperature recorded in Kolkata was 9 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature of the city was recorded at 6.7 degrees Celsius in 1899, which is still a record.

Cold wave in North India also

Cold wave continues in West Bengal as well as North India. Large parts of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab are in the grip of dense fog. There has been heavy snowfall in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, where 4 to 5 feet of snow has accumulated at many places and life has been affected.
