Punjab woman who went to America 30 years ago arrested, arrested during green card interview

USA News: A 60-year-old woman of Indian origin has been detained in America during the final stage of the green card interview. The arrested woman is a resident of Punjab and was living in America for the last 30 years. This action has been taken by American immigration officials.

Anger in Punjabi community

Babaljeet Kaur alias Babli was living in America since 1994. Federal agents arrested him during a biometric scan appointment related to his pending green card application. There is a lot of anger in the Punjabi community after this incident.

Babli’s daughter Jyoti told that on December 1, her mother was present at the front desk of the American Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office. During this time many federal agents reached there. Kaur was then called into the same room where the federal agents went and she was told that she was being detained.

Woman runs a restaurant with her husband

For several hours, Kaur’s family was not even told where she was taken. The family later learned that Kaur was transferred overnight to Adelanto, which was formerly a federal prison and is now being used as an ICE detention center. At present Babaljeet Kaur has been kept in custody here.

Babaljeet Kaur’s family first lived near Lagona Beach after reaching America. Later, due to employment, he started settling in Long Beach near Belmont Shore area. The couple have three children, including daughter Jyoti, 34, who has legal status under the GSVV, while the elder son and daughter are both US citizens. For more than two decades, Kaur, along with her husband, has been running a restaurant named “Nataraj Cuisine of India and Nepal” on Second Street in Belmont Shore.
