Big action by CBI in Bengaluru, Joint Director of CPRI arrested red handed taking bribe worth lakhs

CBI, in a major action in Bengaluru, caught Rajaram Mohanrao Chennu, Joint Director of Central Power Research Institute (CPRI) and Atul Khanna, Director of M/s Sudhir Group of Companies, while taking bribe. Both of them are accused of taking huge bribes in exchange for giving favors in the testing report of electrical equipment.

According to CBI, FIR was registered in this case on 08 January 2026. The complaint alleged that the Joint Director of CPRI and some private people were taking bribe in exchange for giving favorable testing reports of electrical equipment to the private company. This bribe was being given by M/s Sudhir Group of Companies.

CBI action immediately after FIR

After the FIR, CBI immediately set a trap and caught both the accused in Bengaluru on January 09 while taking a bribe amount of Rs 9.5 lakh. The CBI team was present on the spot and as soon as the bribe deal was made, both of them were immediately caught.

After this, CBI searched the house of Joint Director Rajaram Mohanrao Chennu. During the search, the investigating agency found Rs 3.59 crore in cash, besides foreign currency, which included US Dollar, Hong Kong Dollar, Singapore Dollar, Indonesian Rupee, Malaysian Ringgit, Euro, Yuan (Renminbi), Swedish Krona and UAE Dirham. The value of foreign currency is said to be around Rs 4.05 lakh. Apart from this, jewelery and other documents were also found.

This much amount has been recovered so far

According to the count so far, a total of Rs 3.76 crore in cash and foreign currency has been recovered. The search is still going on and seizures may increase in the coming time. CBI has said that this case is of collusion corruption, that is, government officials and private companies were working together to bribe. CBI is interrogating both the accused and gathering information as to who else was involved in this bribery.
