America’s large-scale arms sale to Taiwan is a clear interference in our internal affairs, China said

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Quo Chiakhun held a regular press conference. Discussing the large-scale arms sales by America to Taiwan, Quo Chiakhun said that yesterday we made clear China’s firm stand on this issue.

US large-scale arms sales to Taiwan constitute gross interference in China’s internal affairs, seriously undermine China’s sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, seriously harm peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and send a seriously wrong message to ‘Taiwan independence’ separatist forces and the outside world. China expresses its strong dissatisfaction and strong opposition to this and has lodged an immediate protest with the US.

Discussing the Cambodia-Thailand border situation, Quo Chyakhun said that as a friendly neighbor and ally of Cambodia and Thailand, China is extremely concerned about the current situation on the Cambodia-Thailand border and does not want to see a military conflict between the two countries. China is deeply saddened by the civilian deaths in the conflict. China is actively mediating and promoting dialogue between the two countries, as well as providing conditions and platforms for dialogue.

In response to reports that a senior Japanese official was talking about possessing nuclear weapons, Quo Chiakhun said that Japan has long been making wrong statements and actions on military security issues. The suggestion that some forces in Japan now possess nuclear weapons reflects the growing ambitions of Japan’s right-wing conservative forces to revive militarism, break free from the constraints of the international system, and accelerate ‘re-militarization’.
