Instagram New Update: Instagram has made a big change to deliver content to people in a better way on its platform. Now there will be no benefit of using more hashtags in reels and normal posts. This social media platform owned by Meta has made it clear that now only a maximum of 5 hashtags can be used in any reel or post.
Why was the hashtag limit imposed?
Instagram says that using too many and useless hashtags weakens the performance of the content instead of improving it. According to the company, using fewer but appropriate and content-related hashtags not only improves reach but also provides a better experience to the users. For this reason, this decision has been taken to prevent misuse of hashtags.
How many hashtags were allowed earlier?
The hashtag feature on Instagram was introduced in 2011 with the aim of giving posts a place in topic-based searches, trending lists and algorithmic recommendations. Till now, users could add up to 30 hashtags in a post, but now this feature has been limited.
Instagram’s new advice for creators
It has been told through the Creators account of Instagram that from now on only 5 hashtags will be valid in reels and posts. The company says that creators should carefully choose only those hashtags which are directly related to their content. For example, beauty-related creators should use hashtags specific to the beauty category so that their content reaches the right audience.
Why do you need to avoid general hashtags?
Instagram has clarified that common and frequently used hashtags like #reels, #explore do not help in driving the content to the Explore page. In fact, in many cases, they can also harm the performance of the post.
The test has already been done
Earlier reports had claimed that Instagram is testing the limit of only 3 hashtags for some users. While adding hashtags, a notification was also shown that only three hashtags can be added.
Now, instead of using more hashtags to achieve growth on Instagram, the best strategy would be to choose less and accurate hashtags keeping in mind the right audience.
