The central government is in full alert mode amid terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir and continuous drone infiltration by Pakistan. Considering the seriousness of the situation, the Union Home Secretary and IB chief will reach Jammu on Wednesday and conduct a high-level review of the security arrangements. This visit is taking place at a time when suspicious drones have once again been seen in many areas including Rajouri and the army has activated counter-drone systems.
High-level review of security situation in Jammu today
Amidst the ongoing terrorist operations in many areas of Jammu and continuous drone activities from Pakistan, the Union Home Secretary and the Chief of Intelligence Bureau (IB) are reaching Jammu. As per the schedule, the central team will reach Jammu at around 11 am.
Important meeting will be held in police headquarters
As soon as the central team reaches Jammu, it will hold a security review meeting at Jammu Police Headquarters. Chief Secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, DGP Jammu and Kashmir Police, senior officers of paramilitary forces and top officials of intelligence agencies will be present in this meeting. Terrorist networks, drone infiltration, border security and current operations will be reviewed in detail in the meeting.
Suspicious drone seen again in Rajouri
Meanwhile, many suspicious drones have once again been seen in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. Indian security forces opened fire as soon as the drones were seen, after which they disappeared. After the incident, security has been increased in the entire area and agencies have been put on high alert.
Counter-drone system active near LOC
The Indian Army has activated counter-drone measures near the Line of Control (LoC). Security agencies are keeping an eye on every activity so that any infiltration or attempt to drop weapons can be foiled.
Drone activity in Chingus and Manjakote
According to a report by The Hindu, drones were seen in Chingus and Manjkote areas of Rajouri district between 7 pm and 7:35 pm on Tuesday, January 13. The security forces took immediate action and opened fire. According to officials, the drones disappeared from the area after the firing, although the situation is being continuously monitored.
Intrusion into Indian airspace by Pakistan
Officials said that these drones were seen entering Indian airspace from the Pakistani border. The drones kept hovering in sensitive areas for some time and then went back after the firing. After this the security agencies implemented all the standard operating procedures (SOP).
Search operation started
After the drone activity, nearby posts were alerted and search operations were started in suspicious areas. It is being investigated whether any attempt was made to drop weapons or explosives through drones.
Army Chief’s strong message to Pakistan
A day earlier, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi had clearly warned Pakistan that flying drones near the LoC will not be tolerated at all. He had said that such activities are a serious security threat and the army is ready to deal with every challenge. The Army Chief had also told that there are still 8 terrorist camps active near the International Border and Line of Control, on which the Indian Army is keeping a close watch.
Drones were also seen on January 11
Earlier on January 11 also, many suspicious drones were seen in Jammu and Kashmir. These drones were seen near the India-Pakistan international border and LoC in Samba, Rajouri and Poonch districts. According to officials, activity of at least five drones was seen in the forward areas adjacent to the border. Even after the January 11 incident, an extensive search operation was conducted in the area to find out whether weapons or other suspicious material was dropped on Indian territory through drones.
