Stock Market Holiday Today: Indian stock market will remain closed today on January 15 due to Municipal Corporation elections (BMC) in Maharashtra. There will be no trading today in both BSE and NSE. Trading will remain closed in all segments including equity, equity derivatives, commodity derivatives and electronic gold receipts. Both the exchanges have issued revised circulars confirming the trading holiday. BSE has also informed that the equity derivatives contracts which were to expire on January 15, have been expired a day earlier i.e. on January 14.

For what reason will the stock market remain closed?

The Maharashtra government has declared today i.e. 15 January 2026 as a public holiday under the Negotiable Instruments Act. This holiday has been given due to the elections to be held in 29 municipal corporations of the state, so that people can cast their votes easily. On this day, there will be a large number of voting in the entire state including Mumbai. For this reason, banks, government offices and PSUs will remain closed, and the stock market has also been kept closed. Earlier in the year 2017 also, the stock market remained closed during the elections.
