While hearing the raid case on the office of political consultancy firm I-PAC and the house of its co-founder Prateek Jain on Thursday (January 15, 2026), the Supreme Court judge reprimanded senior advocate Kapil Sibal. Kapil Sibal had appeared in the court to present the side of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. The court asked him not to put words in the judge’s mouth, not to tell him what to believe and what not.
According to the report of Bar and Bench, the court is hearing the petition of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), in which a CBI inquiry has been demanded into the interference between West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee and police officers during the raid. On Wednesday, Trinamool Congress’s petition was rejected in the Calcutta High Court, in which it was demanded that the party’s political data be kept confidential. Kapil Sibal objected to this and said that the High Court will have to hear this.
The bench of Justice PK Mishra and Justice Vipul Panchauli said that we are very upset with the attitude of the High Court. Kapil Sibal said that the hearing was held yesterday and the Supreme Court will have to accept that the High Court is unable to provide justice. On this statement of Sibal, the bench said angrily, ‘You cannot put words in my mouth. We will decide what we want to believe and what we don’t.
Kapil Sibal said that the High Court will have to hear and give the verdict, then we will appeal. He told that the High Court has also started the hearing. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi was also present in the court, he said that the High Court postponed the hearing tomorrow and said that this matter is already pending in the Supreme Court.
During the hearing on Wednesday, Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, on behalf of the ED, had sought postponement of the hearing from the High Court and had said that a similar petition was pending in the Supreme Court and the High Court had also agreed to it. While rejecting TMC’s petition yesterday, the High Court had also said that ED has stated in its Panchnama that it does not have any documents, Mamata Banerjee had taken the documents with herself from the red site.
