Jammu and Kashmir government appointed nodal officer, responsible for the security of Indians in Iran, got these rights

In view of the ongoing unstable situation and protests in Iran, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir has made special arrangements for the safety, welfare and assistance of its residents and students present there. The government has appointed Anil Sharma of Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service as the nodal officer. He is Additional Resident Commissioner in New Delhi. This order has been issued by the General Administration Department (GAD).

What is in the GAD order?

Due to the current situation in Iran, the Government is concerned about the safety and well-being of the residents of Jammu and Kashmir (including students). Anil Sharma has been made the nodal officer to maintain coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs of the Central Government, the Indian Embassy in Iran and other concerned agencies.

What will be the responsibility of the nodal officer?

  • Sharing information related to safety, welfare and travel convenience.
  • Providing documentation, advice and welfare support.
  • To facilitate necessary interventions when needed.
  • This arrangement is applicable with immediate effect for the residents and students of Jammu and Kashmir in Iran.

  • These numbers work under the CM Helpline and are active to help the people stranded in Iran.

Indian government gave advice to Indians in Iran

Major protests have been taking place in Iran since December 2025, resulting in thousands of deaths and arrests. The situation is tense due to internet blackout and security action. The Indian government is already advising Indian citizens (especially students) in Iran to leave if it is not necessary. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah met Foreign Minister S. Spoke to Jaishankar and took assurance for the safety of students and residents of Jammu and Kashmir.
