Chinese Humanoid Robot: Chinese robotics startup company Noetix has introduced a new humanoid service robot which has been specially designed for the real working environment. The company has presented this robot as an “all-rounder” that can easily do tasks like talking to people and guiding them in public places. Its most special thing is that it has been given a very realistic looking face with a woman’s structure, which at first glance looks just like a human being.
Human-like appearance and smart design
The name of this humanoid robot of Noetix is Hobbs W1. It has a bionic style head with which an expressive interactive screen is attached. This is the reason why its face looks very friendly and affectionate. The company says that this design makes it suitable for hotels, retail stores, offices, schools and other public places where direct communication with people is necessary.
Capable in every role, from conversation to work
Hobbs W1 is not only smart in appearance, but its capabilities are also quite advanced. This robot can recognize human emotions, conduct natural conversations and is capable of sharing information in real time. Not only this, it can move in sync with the people walking in the crowd and can handle the tasks related to reception or guidance on its own.
Tremendous technique in hands and arms too
This robot has been given hands with six degrees of freedom and robotic arms with five degrees of freedom. With its help, it can talk through gestures, hand things to someone and can also do light physical tasks. Generally, robots designed for reception are limited to just conversation, but Hobbs W1 bridges the gap between social behavior and working capabilities.
The power of navigation without human help
A major feature of Hobbs W1 is its autonomous navigation system. This robot can make a map of any complex indoor area and move around there without much human intervention. It comes in handy for reception duties, giving directions and helping with everyday tasks. The company says that this robot has not been designed to replace humans, but to make their work easier and more effective.
Humanoid at low price, Noetix’s big idea
Noetix has already been in the news for its humanoid robot. In October, the company launched a child-sized humanoid robot named Bumi, whose price was shocking. After funding about $41 million, the company introduced it at such a low price that it came in the range of premium smartphones or high-end laptops.
What is the strategy behind keeping the price low?
According to the company, the biggest reason behind the low price is its smart engineering and manufacturing strategy. The company designs many important components itself, which reduces dependence on external suppliers. Apart from this, the weight of the robot has been reduced by using light but strong material, which also reduces the cost of motor and battery. Almost all the parts are sourced from within China, which saves both logistics cost and time.
Hobbs W1 shows glimpse of the future
Hobbs W1 indicates that in the future, humanoid robots will not be limited to factories or research labs only. These robots can be seen commonly working with humans in hotels, offices, shopping malls and schools. This new step by Noetix shows that technology is now reaching the point where robots that look and behave like humans can become a part of our everyday lives.
