After BJP’s bumper majority in the results of Maharashtra civic elections, Rasmalai has started trending on social media platform X. This trend started due to the war of words between Tamil Nadu BJP leader Annamalai and MNS Chief Raj Thackeray during the election campaign. Regarding this, BJP MPs PC Mohan and Tejashwi Surya have taken a dig at Raj Thackeray. A similar discussion took place regarding Jalebi during Haryana elections.
Why is ‘Rasmalai’ trending on social media?
During the BMC election campaign in Mumbai, Annamalai had said that this city is not just of Maharashtra, but is an international city. On this, Raj Thackeray made fun of Annamalai by calling it ‘Rasmalai’. MNS Chief had said, ‘A Rasmalai from Tamil Nadu has come to Mumbai. What connection do you have here? Remove lungi, play pungi. Annamalai responded by calling it an insult to Tamils. He challenged and said, ‘I will come to Mumbai. Try cutting my feet.
Annamalai said, K. Praising leaders like Kamaraj does not diminish their Tamil identity, just as calling Mumbai a world-class city does not negate the role of the people of Maharashtra in making it. Annamalai also accused Shiv Sena leaders of insulting Tamils by making fun of traditional attire like lungi and dhoti and said it was surprising that the DMK chose to share the political platform with parties that resort to such comments.

BJP-Shiv Sena alliance did wonders in the elections of 29 bodies including BMC in Maharashtra. The BJP alliance completely wiped out the opposition and is ahead in 23 out of 29 municipal corporations in the state. Mumbai was controlled by Uddhav Thackeray led Shiv Sena for 25 years, but now BJP has captured it.
