Taking a big step, the Central Government has blocked 242 website links related to illegal betting and gambling. The government has taken this action keeping in mind the youth of the country. A large number of youth of the country were carrying out activities like illegal online betting and gambling. With the government’s decision, now these websites and illegal betting apps have been completely banned.
So far thousands of apps have been closed
Till now, more than 7 thousand 800 illegal betting and gambling websites have been closed. With the passing of the Online Gaming Act, such actions have gained momentum. President Draupadi Murmu had approved the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill 2025. It was passed by the Parliament in August last year. This law is being considered a strong step towards protecting citizens from the dangers of online money games and promoting and regulating other types of online games.
Betting apps had become a problem for the government
The government had stated in the Online Gaming Bill 2025 that this law has been made to prevent addiction, financial ruin and social problems caused by such gaming platforms which make profits by making false promises. The government has taken this step to protect the family and secure the digital economy. WHO has classified this type of game addiction as gaming disorder. According to the information given by the government, online money gaming platforms have caused economic loss on a large scale. Family members had lost their savings in such games. Young people became victims of its addiction. During this period, cases of suicide also came to light.
