7 arrests in the case of mob lynching of Hindu youth in Bangladesh, Mohammad Yunus finally bowed down after all-round criticism

Seven people have been arrested in the case of lynching of a Hindu youth in Mymensingh district of Bangladesh. Chief Advisor of the interim government, Mohammad Yunus gave this information on Saturday and said that the culprits will not be spared at any cost.

According to the Yunus administration, the youth who was lynched was 27-year-old Dipu Chandra Das, who belonged to the Hindu community. In a statement shared on the social media platform ‘X’, Yunus said that Dipu was brutally beaten, due to which he died on the spot.

RAB action, seven accused arrested
The Chief Advisor said that the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested seven suspects in this case. Those arrested include Mohammad Limon Sarkar (19), Mohammad Tariq Hussain (19), Mohammad Manik Mian (20), Irshad Ali (39), Nijum Uddin (20), Alamgir Hussain (38) and Mohammad Miraj Hussain Akon (46).

Arrests after raids in many areas
Yunus said that RAB-14 teams conducted a coordinated operation in different areas of Mymensingh, after which all the accused were detained. The investigation of the matter is still going on and further action will be taken if necessary.

The incident occurred amid violence that spread after Hadi’s death.
This lynching took place at a time when tension and violence had spread in the country after the death of youth leader Sharif Usman Hadi. Hadi was one of the key leaders of last year’s student-led ‘July Movement’ and was also the spokesperson of ‘Inquilab Manch’.

Hadi died during treatment in Singapore
Hadi was shot in the head by masked attackers in Dhaka on 12 December. In critical condition, he was sent to Singapore for treatment, where he died in the hospital on Thursday. After this, violent demonstrations started in many cities including Dhaka.

Strong reaction from the interim government
After the incident, the interim government of Bangladesh strongly condemned the murder of the Hindu youth. The government said that ‘there is no place for such violence in the new Bangladesh’ and anyone involved in this heinous crime will be brought to justice.

Appeal to the public to exercise restraint
The Yunus administration appealed to the people to maintain peace, stay away from rumors and not indulge in any kind of violence or provocation. The government said that maintaining law and order is the top priority. The government also expressed solidarity with journalists and media organizations whose offices were attacked during the recent violence. The government also condemned the incidents of vandalism and arson in the offices of ‘Prothom Alo’ and ‘The Daily Star’.
