Ruckus over SIR in Bengal, BJP and TMC workers clash on the streets in Murshidabad, stones pelted at police vehicle, Video

Workers of Trinamool Congress and BJP clashed on the streets amid the ongoing conflict over Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal. During this time, stones were also pelted at a police vehicle in Murshidabad. BJP alleges that TMC workers stopped them from submitting Form-7, after which a dispute took place. During this, the BJP worker’s car was vandalized in front of the police and the form was set on fire.

Protests are taking place in different districts of Bengal regarding SIR. Meanwhile, on Monday (January 19, 2026), the Supreme Court directed the Election Commission to display the names of people included in the list of logical anomalies in Gram Panchayat buildings, Taluka Block offices and Ward offices in West Bengal.

A bench of Chief Justice Ury Kant, Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice Joymalya Bagchi said that people likely to be affected by the SIR in West Bengal should be allowed to submit their documents or objections. The Supreme Court directed that offices for submitting documents and objections will be set up within panchayat buildings or block offices.
