After the video of alleged molestation inside a bus in Kerala went viral, the case of suicide of the accused person has sparked heated debate across the country. This case is related to Kozhikode district of Kerala, where 41-year-old Deepak committed suicide after allegations made on social media.
The incident took place in Govindpuram area, where Deepak was found hanging in his house at around 7 am on Sunday (January 18, 2026). It was reported that on Friday (January 16, 2026), a woman had shared a video on social media, in which she alleged that Deepak touched her with sexual intentions during the bus journey. The video quickly went viral and sparked widespread online discussion.
Deepak was under mental stress after the video went viral
However, the woman later deleted the video and shared another clip to clarify why she had posted the video. On the other hand, the family members of the deceased termed the allegations as false and said that Deepak was under deep mental stress after the video went viral. The family claims that no such allegation had ever been made against Deepak before and he was talking about filing a defamation case after the incident.
Charge filed against woman for abetting suicide
Meanwhile, social activist Deepika Narayan Bhardwaj, who has raised voice for men’s rights, alleged that the girl deliberately made such a video for the purpose of making a reel, due to which the matter became more controversial. After investigating the matter, the police have registered a case against the woman who posted the video. Vadakara resident Shimjitha Mustafa has been accused of abetting suicide. The police have recorded the statement of the woman, which was taken after reaching Vadakara.
Deepak’s parents have filed a complaint demanding registration of a murder case against the woman. The family members say that the viral video on social media caused serious mental trauma to their son and he was humiliated for a crime which he had not committed.
Woman absconding after case registered under non-bailable sections
According to Kozhikode Police, Shimjitha Mustafa has absconded after a case of abetment to suicide was registered. The police have registered a case under non-bailable sections and started the process of his arrest. It was told that she absconded after recording her statement in Vadakara. Police say that the investigation of the entire matter is going on and all aspects, authenticity of the video, events and reasons for suicide are being investigated thoroughly.
