On December 22, 2025, former MLA Humayun Kabir, expelled from Trinamool Congress (TMC), announced the formation of a new political party. He named his new party ‘Janata Unnayan Party’. Along with this, he is announcing the names of the candidates for the upcoming assembly elections.
Humayun said, ‘My party will only talk about the development of the common people, on the basis of which the party has been named. Upgradation means development. For his party’s election symbol, his first choice was ‘table’ and second choice was ‘couple of roses’.
After being expelled from TMC, Humayun Kabir has decided to contest the next assembly elections on his own. Humayun has been in the news a lot in the past, due to which he laid the foundation of Babri Masjid. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s problems may increase with Humayun’s entry into the electoral fray.
Targeted at Mohan Bhagwat
Before the announcement of the party’s name, Humayun made a scathing attack on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statement on Babri Masjid. Kabir said that he respects Mohan Bhagwat ji, but his assumption that there could be riots in Bengal is wrong. He said, ‘We will not let anything like this happen.’
