A big decision has been taken in the matter of recruiting youth and radicalizing them for Pakistan-linked terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. The Special Court of National Investigation Agency (NIA), Kolkata has sentenced the main accused in this case to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.
Syed M. Idris, resident of Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, was found guilty in this case. The court has sentenced him to a maximum sentence of 10 years and has also imposed a fine of Rs 70 thousand. All sentences will run concurrently.
NIA took over the investigation of this case from West Bengal Police in April 2020. During the investigation, Idris was arrested along with Altaf Ahmed Rather, a resident of Jammu and Kashmir. Investigation revealed that both of them, along with a woman named Tania Parveen, had conspired to set up a LeT module in West Bengal. Earlier in March 2020, STF West Bengal Police had arrested Tania Parveen by raiding Baruiya area of ​​North 24 Parganas. Jihadi books and other objectionable items were also recovered during the search.
The NIA investigation also revealed that Muslim youth were being instigated through social media and incited for jihad against the Indian government. Youth were being recruited under this conspiracy. After this, in September 2020 and May 2021, NIA had filed chargesheet against the three arrested accused as well as two absconding terrorists sitting in Pakistan. These absconding accused were identified as Ayesha alias Ayesha Burhan alias Syed Ayesha and Bilal alias Bilal Durrani. Red and Blue Corner notices have been issued against them. The trial against the two other arrested accused in this case is still going on.
