Thanjavur Crime News: The incidents of theft in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu have increased the concern of the people. In different areas, unknown thieves broke the locks of houses and temples and made away with gold and silver jewellery. In both the cases, the police have registered a case and started investigation and the search for the thieves is going on.

Karikalan, a resident of Pappa Nagar Second Street, Villar Road near Thanjavur, had gone there four months ago for a foreign job. His wife Priyanka (30) is pregnant. On the 19th, due to her unwell condition, Priyanka had gone to her aunt’s house in Fatima Nagar. When Priyanka returned to her home on the afternoon of 21st, she saw that the lock of the main door of the house was broken. When I went inside I saw that the cupboard was also broken.
The thieves stole 13 gold ornaments and about half a kilo of silver items kept in the cupboard. The estimated value of the stolen goods is said to be around Rs 2 lakh. Priyanka immediately informed the Thanjavur Taluka Police about this incident. Inspector Somasundaram reached the spot with his team. Evidence was collected by calling fingerprint experts and investigation was also done with the help of sniffer dog. Police are examining the footage of CCTV cameras installed in nearby houses.
Theft in Angalparameshwari Amman temple also
Similarly, an incident of theft has also come to light in Angalaparameshwari Amman temple located in Kattukurichi area of Thanjavur district. Sridev (25), son of temple priest Parthasarathy, had gone home after closing the temple at around 7 pm on the 20th as usual.
When he reached the temple on the morning of 21st, he saw that the locks of the temple were broken. Inside, a total of 31 grams of gold ornaments and silver tiruvachi including the mangalsutra, pearls, bindi, coins offered on the idol of the goddess were missing. The value of the stolen jewelery has been estimated to be around Rs 1.15 lakh.
Police engaged in investigation
On the complaint of temple theft, Sub-Inspector Muthukumar and the police team inspected the spot. Here also the help of fingerprint expert and sniffer dog was taken. Thanjavur Taluka Police has registered a case in both the cases. There is an atmosphere of panic in the area due to continuous incidents of theft. Police say that the accused will be arrested soon.
