‘Central officials have less knowledge, BJP says…’, why did Mamata Banerjee get angry at Modi government?

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday (22 December 2025) targeted the Election Commission and alleged that there are many flaws in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of the voter list conducted so far in the state. At the meeting of booth level workers of Trinamool Congress at Netaji Indoor Stadium, the Bengal CM said that the Election Commission is appointing observers without informing the state government and is working to further the interests of BJP.

‘Central officials have little knowledge of local language’

He said, ‘The Election Commission is working only on the instructions of BJP, strict action will be taken against the Trinamool Congress councilors who remained inactive during the SIR process.’ The TMC chief claimed that the central officials appointed as observers for the SIR hearing have little knowledge of the local language and are ineligible to conduct verification during the second phase of the SIR process.

‘Attempt to bring outsiders for elections’

TMC Chief said, ,BJP is trying to remove the names of about 1.5 crore voters from the voter list, which is like harming democracy. Bikes are being brought to Bardhaman district from other states, especially Bihar, and efforts are being made to bring outsiders for the elections. ,

CM Mamata Banerjee said, ‘They want to destroy democracy. Will people of Matua and tribal communities not be able to vote now? These people are trying to complete in two months the work that should take two years. BJP has made all the agencies its agents. After delimitation, now 144 wards are left. Have Gyanesh Kumar’s officials thought about this? Have BLOs been given adequate training?
