Protests are being held in many other countries including India against the incidents of attacks, arson, looting and murder on the minority Hindu community in Bangladesh. Meanwhile, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Imran Pratapgarhi said that the central government should take strict steps to ensure security of minorities in Bangladesh. He termed such incidents happening in the neighboring country as the failure of the Yunus government.
‘Governments around the world should immediately intervene’
Congress MP Imran Pratapgarhi posted on X and said, ‘The kind of hate-filled violence being seen against minority Hindu brothers in Bangladesh shows that the government of Bangladesh has failed miserably. Governments around the world need to intervene immediately so that the barbarity seen on the streets can be stopped. The Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India should talk to the Government of Bangladesh in a warning tone to ensure the safety of minorities there on a war footing.
Hindu youth killed by mob in Bangladesh
Bangladesh’s hardline leader Usman Hadi was shot in the head by masked gunmen during an election campaign in Dhaka’s Bijoynagar area on December 12, after which he died during treatment in Singapore. Violence flared up again in Dhaka and other major cities over the attack on Hadi and his subsequent death. Meanwhile, Hindu youth Dipu Chandra Das was beaten to death by the mob. The mob took the body to the Square Masterbari bus stand area, tied it to a tree with a rope and set it on fire while raising slogans.
After Hadi, another student leader shot in the head
Mohammad Yunus’ interim government on Saturday organized nationwide mourning over Hadi’s death and said no stone would be left unturned to catch his killers. Motaleb Sikdar, the second leader of the 2024 student-led violent movement, was shot in the head by unidentified gunmen on Monday in Bangladesh’s southwestern city of Khulna. After the attack, the police said that they are still unaware of the perpetrators or motive of the attack, but have launched an immediate search operation for their arrest.
