The father of England’s legendary player Michael Vaughan has passed away suddenly. For this reason, Michael Vaughan has left the Ashes series midway and returned to England. The veteran cricketer told that he was able to spend some time with his father before he passed away. Michael’s father Graham Vaughan was battling cancer.
On Monday, Michael Vaughn told through social media that with tears in his eyes he had lost his hero, his mentor, true friend and best father. Michael Vaughan said that it was good for him that he could be with his father during his last 30 hours. The legendary England player shared a long emotional message in memory of his father.
Graham Vaughan breathed his last at St Luke’s Hospice in Sheffield and died in the arms of Michael Vaughan’s brother. Other family members were also present there. Many former cricketers expressed condolences at this sad time. Other cricketers including Wasim Jaffer, Kevin Pietersen and James Faulkner have also expressed deep condolences.
Recently, Michael Vaughan was a part of the broadcast team of the Ashes series and was staying in Australia. But due to deteriorating health of his father, he went back to England. Talking about the Ashes series, Australia has taken an unassailable lead of 3-0. There are still two more matches to be played in the series.
Michael Vaughan said goodbye to his cricket career in the year 2009. In his long career, he captained the England team in 82 Test and 86 ODI matches. Under his captaincy, England registered a historic victory in the Ashes 2005. He had scored 7728 runs in his international cricket career.
