He says that instead of eliminating jobs, AI will create new types of jobs and there will be huge demand for professional skills like plumber and electrician.
Jensen Huang’s big statement in Davos
Speaking at the World Economic Forum, Davos, Jensen Huang clearly said that it is wrong to assume that AI will eliminate employment on a large scale. He admitted that due to automation, the nature of some jobs like coding and software engineering will change but it does not mean that the work will end. According to him, the kind of huge data centers and tech infrastructure required to run AI will become a major source of new jobs.
Old internet joke may become reality, not a joke
There has been a frequent joke on the internet that people wanted AI to wash dishes and wash clothes so that humans could do creative work, but the opposite happened. Now AI is creating art and humans are forced to do household work.
From Jensen Huang’s statement it seems that this joke may also be true in the future. He indicates that in the coming times, there will be more need for plumbers, electricians and technicians than coders. The surprising thing is that people working in these professions can earn more than one lakh dollars annually.
Historic infrastructure expansion will begin with AI boom
According to the Nvidia CEO, the race to rapidly adopt AI around the world could prove to be “the largest infrastructure creation in human history.” Under this, new data centres, semiconductor factories, chip plants and AI-specialized units will be built. In the construction of all this, plumbers, electricians, steel workers and construction experts will be needed more than engineers.
Salary will increase in trade jobs, competition to tech jobs
Huang believes that not only will the number of jobs increase, but the salaries of these skill-based professions will also increase rapidly. Many trade jobs are now earning equal to or more than traditional tech jobs. Due to the shortage of skilled labor, people working in chip factories and AI units can reach six-figure salaries.
The world of AI is not limited to engineers only
The Nvidia CEO stressed that the AI economy is not just for coders and researchers. With the simultaneous growth of digital and physical infrastructure, the importance of all types of skills will remain.
In his words, “Everyone should have the opportunity to earn a good living,” whether working in front of a laptop or on a factory site.
AI will not eliminate jobs, it will transform them
While on one hand there is an atmosphere of fear regarding generative AI, on the other hand Jensen Huang’s argument points towards history. According to him, technology often does not eliminate jobs, but changes them. When AI takes over repetitive tasks, humans can shift to higher value and new types of roles, even if they are outside coding.
