After getting the green signal for the deal to make Rafale fighter aircraft with France, now India and the European Union (EU) are going to sign a very special Security and Defense Partnership Agreement. This agreement is going to happen at a time when the whole of Europe is in shock due to the evil eye of the US President on Greenland.
EU’s High Representative for Foreign and Security Affairs Kaja Kallas has shared information regarding this agreement. In his address to the EU Parliament, Kallus said that India is also ready for this agreement. Kallus, a former Prime Minister of the European country Estonia, also holds the post of Vice President of the European Commission. Kallas told the EU Parliament that she herself is reaching New Delhi to sign this agreement with India.
This year EU President and Commissioner will be the chief guest of Republic Day
According to the information, the agreement between India and EU is going to be mainly in the areas of maritime, cyber and counter-terrorism. This year, EU President Antonio Costa and Commissioner Ursula Van der Leyen are the chief guests at the Republic Day Parade (January 26, 2026). A high level delegation of EU is also reaching Delhi along with him. A contingent of naval personnel from the European Union will also be seen marching in the Republic Day parade organized on the duty path.
EU’s defense and security agreement with India is very special
In fact, there is a fierce dispute going on between America and European countries over the occupation of Ukraine and now Greenland. US President Donald Trump is adamant on making Greenland a part of America at any cost. European countries are very angry with Trump for his leniency towards Russia in the Ukraine war. Now the EU is holding its breath over the occupation of Greenland, an autonomous country of Denmark. In such a situation, EU’s defense and security agreement with India becomes very important.
No information yet from India regarding the agreement
Although, not much information has been shared by India regarding this agreement, but in recent times India has indicated about making big defense deals with important countries of Europe like France and Germany.
At the same time, last week, the Defense Ministry of India had given the green signal to the Air Force for 114 Rafale fighter aircraft shared with France. Under this deal, France’s Dassault company will manufacture 114 Rafale fighter jets in India. Before that, there was also an important discussion with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who was visiting India, about building a joint submarine for the Navy.
