He was born on 26 January 1980. Born in Sundernagar, Varun’s father was an engineer in the army. This was the reason why his childhood was spent in different parts of the country. He graduated in civil engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU) and then worked in a software company.
Varun was already fond of writing. Varun, who had been writing poetry since school and college days, wanted to do something different. He left his job and came to Mumbai to fulfill his dreams.
Varun also worked in a software company in Pune, where he realized what his life was going to be like after 20 years. He told in an interview, “I was able to see my future that after 20 years I am going to look like the seniors in the office. All the seniors have the same car, the houses are almost the same, and the children also study in the same school. I did not want to live such a life, and my family was also very supportive.”
He first started attending writers’ sessions and focused on writing that ranged from humorous to emotional. While honing his art, Varun had made a name for himself through comedy and then it was his turn to move towards films. He got the opportunity to write the stories of ‘Masaan’ and ‘Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar’. He was not limited to just writing, but he also tried his hand in direction.
He directed the film ‘All India Rank’. Varun, who tickles with his words on screen, also knows romance very well. He wrote the song ‘Moh-Moh Ke Dhaage’, for which he also received the National Award. The process did not stop here, Varun wrote songs like ‘Shauk’, ‘Yeh Ek Zindagi’, ‘Nazar Teri Toofan’, and ‘Jabra Fan’. Today he is known as a successful lyricist, writer and stand-up artist.
