A major accident took place at the Maktal Tehsildar office of Telangana on the occasion of Republic Day on Monday (January 26, 2026), in which the state Forest and Environment Minister Vakiti Srihari had a narrow escape. When the minister was hoisting the national flag, suddenly the flag pole broke and fell down. Many people present at the spot have been injured in this accident, but the minister is safe. This incident reflects administrative negligence, especially when an earlier incident of BRS leader Kotha Prabhakar hoisting the flag upside down has come to light.
The incident occurred around 9 am on Monday (January 26, 2026), when the minister had arrived to attend an official function organized at Vakiti Srihari Maktal. As soon as the minister pulled the rope after the national anthem, instead of raising the tricolor, the iron pole itself broke and fell down. There was chaos when a heavy steel pole along with the flag fell. The pole fell on some policemen and officers standing near the minister, causing injuries. Fortunately, the minister was standing a little ahead at that time, due to which he was saved from the accident.
This incident also points towards increasing disorders in official functions organized in Telangana. Just before this, in another incident, BRS leader Kotha Prabhakar had accidentally hoisted the flag upside down, due to which the opposition had cornered the government. Now this accident has raised questions whether the responsible officials are able to understand the seriousness of national celebrations?
