Some people from Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat have been arrested for leaking sensitive information related to the Indian Navy and passing it on to Pakistani handlers. Udupi Police arrested the third accused in the case of leaking of sensitive information related to Indian Navy by employees associated with Malpe Cochin Shipyard, who has been identified as Hirendra Kumar (34 years), son of Bharat Kumar Khadayat, resident of Kailash Nagari, Anand district of Gujarat.
Two accused from UP and one from Gujarat arrested
According to the police, the accused are suspected of sending confidential information related to naval operations and establishments to their handlers based in Pakistan in exchange for illegal financial gains. Earlier, on November 21, the police had arrested Rohit and Santri, natives of Uttar Pradesh, in the same case. All three accused are currently in judicial custody.
Rohit obtained and shared a confidential list of identification numbers of Indian Navy ships and sent details of ship repair schedules and sensitive infrastructure data. He used to do this with the help of the sentry. The third accused Hirendra Kumar had provided a SIM card registered in his name to Rohit in exchange for money. According to the police, the accused from Gujarat was giving SIM card and OTP, which were used to activate WhatsApp account to communicate with Pakistani handlers.
Police became active after receiving intelligence
According to the report of news agency PTI, this matter came to light after inputs received from intelligence agencies. Intelligence input had raised suspicion of a security breach in naval establishments located off the Karnataka coast, following which the police had started an investigation. During this time the arrest process was intensified. The arrest of Hirendra Kumar reveals a large network of logistics support spread across several states. A case has been registered against the accused under different sections of BNS and UAPA.
