Delhi Capitals has appointed Jemimah Rodrigues as the new captain. In WPL 2026, the command of Delhi team will be in the hands of Rodrigues and she will replace Australian veteran player Meg Lanning as captain. Lanning, under whose captaincy till now Delhi had played the finals of the Women’s Premier all three times, but all three times Delhi Capitals had missed out on winning the WPL title.
Jemimah Rodrigues has been a part of the Delhi Capitals squad since the first season and till now has scored 507 runs in 27 matches for this team. Her strike rate in the Women’s Premier League is 139.67. He has played all three WPL finals so far while being a part of the Delhi team.
25-year-old Jemimah Rodrigues is India’s star batsman, who contributed significantly in making Team India the world champion in 2025. He played a historic inning of 127 runs against Australia in the semi-finals. Jemimah Rodrigues was retained by Delhi Capitals for Rs 2.2 crore before the WPL 2026 mega auction.
On being appointed the new captain of Delhi Capitals, Jemimah Rodrigues said, “It is an honor to be appointed the captain of Delhi Capitals. I thank the team owners and the support staff for showing confidence in me. This year has been very good for me and my family, first winning the World Cup and now I have got the opportunity to captain Delhi Capitals.”
Rodrigues has gained a lot of experience in T20 at the age of only 25. He has scored 2,444 runs in 113 International T20 matches for India, which includes 14 half-centuries. On the other hand, he has 1749 runs in his name in 59 ODI matches. Let us tell you that Delhi Capitals will play its first match in WPL 2026 with Mumbai Indians on January 10.
