The Government of India’s statement has come out on the confusion being spread regarding Census 2027. A formal post has been shared by the government on social media. This post has been shared from the X handle of PIB Home Ministry.
What has the Home Ministry said in its statement?
It has been said that the complete information of Census-2027 has been released through press release on 12 December 2025. Still, some people are deliberately trying to spread confusion regarding Census-2027 and especially the caste census. It has already been clarified that Census-2027 will be conducted in two phases, in which caste enumeration will be done in the second phase. Census-2027, like the previous censuses of India, is being conducted in two phases. The first phase is known as houselisting and house counting. The second phase is known as population census.
Government has issued notification on 22 January
Earlier on January 22, the Central Government had issued the notification of Census 2027. A list of 33 questions has been included in this notification. These include questions related to house, family, vehicle. During the census, the senior most member of the family will have to give this information. The census will be completed in two phases. In this, the first phase will start between April to September 2026. The second phase will start in February 2027. In the first phase, the list of houses and data related to it will be added. The population will be counted in the second phase.
Census will be paperless, records will be kept digital
The government has informed that the census will be completely digital. 30 lakh employees will collect information about the mobile app. Census will be paperless through mobile app, portal and real time data transfer. The app will be available on both Android and IOS operating systems.
