Google Maps: Google Maps has brought another big change for its users. Now users will be able to take help of Gemini AI even while walking and cycling. Earlier, Google has provided Gemini based hands-free conversation facility in driving, public transport and two-wheeler navigation and now the same smart feature is being made available for pedestrians and cyclists also.
This is how you will get Gemini’s support while traveling.
When you start navigation to a location on Google Maps in walk or cycling mode, you can activate AI by tapping on the Gemini icon that appears at the top right of the screen. Apart from this, Gemini can also be called by saying Hey Google, so there will be no need to touch the phone.
Will work as a personal tour guide
According to Google, Gemini will now play the role of a personal walking tour guide for you. You can ask him which area you are in or which good restaurants are available near you. In response, Gemini will give you information about the places on your route and tell you about special spots nearby, which will make your trip more interesting than before.
Even more beneficial for cyclists
Gemini provides complete hands-free assistance while cycling so that your attention is not diverted from the road. You can ask him your estimated time of arrival, get information about the next meeting or send a message to someone. Gemini will automatically send the message so there will be no need to take out the phone.
Improvement in both security and convenience
The biggest feature of this new feature is that the need to unlock the phone while on the go is eliminated. This not only makes the work easier but also reduces the risk of accidents because the user’s focus remains on the road.
Gemini replaces old voice commands
Gemini is now replacing the old voice commands of Google Maps. It can also collect information from other connected services of Google. Users can also ask for trip related information like parking, nearby restaurants, EV charging stations and petrol pumps.
Easy route will be available through landmark
Google has added another new feature in which nearby landmarks will now be used instead of meter distance while giving directions. For example, instead of “turn left after 100 meters” it will be said “turn right after petrol pump”. However, this facility is not yet available in every country.
Rollout started on Android and iOS
This new Gemini-based walking and cycling feature of Google Maps is being gradually rolled out in all areas where Gemini is available. Both Android and iOS users will soon be able to take advantage of this smart update.
