Budget 2026: ‘I am happy…’ What did Shashi Tharoor say different from the opposition regarding the Union Budget 2026?

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has given a statement regarding the Union Budget 2026-27. He has said that he is very curious about what Kerala is getting in the budget. He said, ‘Waiting to hear what the Finance Minister is going to tell us. The economic survey shows good growth, but the problem for the youth of this country is whether this growth will come with employment.

Earlier, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor had given a statement regarding the budget on Saturday (31 January 2026). He had said that he hoped that the central government would fulfill its promises made to Kerala in the Union Budget, which also included the establishment of AIIMS in the state. He also stressed the need to deal with the problem of coastal erosion on a war footing. Tharoor said that even the loss of an inch of land to a foreign country like China triggers discussions like war and threat to national security, but the large-scale erosion in coastal areas due to the sea, which he described as the loss of parts of Mother India, is not taken seriously.

Statement given regarding AIIMS

According to PTI report, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that he has been raising the issue of coastal erosion in Parliament and with the Prime Minister for the last several years. Tharoor told reporters, ‘The central government says it is the responsibility of the state, while the state government says it does not have the funds for it.’ He expressed hope that a solution to this problem would be found in the Union Budget. Tharoor said that unemployment is also a big challenge before the country and he hopes that concrete steps will be taken to deal with it in the budget. Referring to the proposed All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Kerala, he said that its establishment was promised about 15 years ago, but till now it has not materialized.

Full-fledged Union Budget will be presented for the ninth time

Let us tell you that Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is going to present the full-fledged Union Budget for the ninth consecutive time today i.e. on 1 February 2026. This is the second time in the parliamentary history of the country, when the general budget will be presented in the Lok Sabha on Sunday. Earlier in the year 2017 also the budget was presented on Sunday. Salaried class, middle class, women, youth and business class all have high expectations regarding this budget. The entire country is keeping an eye on the government’s decisions on issues like inflation, tax, employment and economic stability.
