Bluetooth: Nowadays, Bluetooth has become a common feature of smartphones. Wireless earphones, smartwatches, car systems or file sharing, Bluetooth is used everywhere. For this reason many people keep it on the whole day. But the question remains in the mind whether Bluetooth really drains the phone’s battery faster or it is just a misunderstanding.
Does Bluetooth really eat battery?
Bluetooth in modern smartphones has become much more power-efficient than before. The reason for this is Bluetooth Low Energy i.e. BLE technology which works on very low power. If Bluetooth is on in your phone but is not connected to any device, it uses almost no battery in the background.
Generally, keeping Bluetooth on for the whole day consumes only 1 to 3 percent of the total battery. That means the phone does not discharge quickly just because of Bluetooth. Yes, in very old smartphones the battery consumption may be slightly higher due to old hardware.
How much battery is consumed during use?
When Bluetooth connects to a device—such as wireless earbuds, a smartwatch, or a car system—battery consumption increases slightly. There is continuous data transfer during music streaming or calls. In such a situation, listening to songs through Bluetooth earphones for one hour can consume about 4 to 6 percent of the battery.
However, this figure depends on the model and Bluetooth version of the phone. Still, Bluetooth generally consumes less battery than Wi-Fi or mobile data.
Easy ways to save battery when using Bluetooth
Bluetooth does not consume much battery but by adopting some small habits you can save battery in a better way. It is wise to turn off Bluetooth when it is not needed. Keep devices that connect automatically disconnected.
Always keep your phone and Bluetooth accessories on the latest software updates, as new updates improve power efficiency. Additionally, using new devices that support Bluetooth Low Energy also reduces battery consumption.
Streaming music or making calls for a long time may consume more battery, so use it as per need. By going to the phone’s battery settings, you can also see how much power Bluetooth is using, which makes it easier to manage the battery.
