Former Telangana Chief Minister and BRS chief K Chandrashekhar Rao (KCR) was rigorously interrogated for about 4 hours at his residence by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the phone tapping case on Sunday (1 February 2026). This interrogation took place at his Nandi Nagar residence in Banjara Hills, where as soon as the investigating officers arrived, the entire area was transformed into security rings. However, even amidst this legal action, the enthusiasm of KCR workers did not seem to diminish and thousands of his supporters gathered there.
According to media reports and information received from various news portals, police officials reached KCR’s house at around 1 pm and questioned him till around 5:30 pm. During interrogation, KCR was asked questions about his conversations with IPS officers and orders for phone tapping. Sources say that the SIT also focused on whether the former Chief Minister was aware of this entire operation.
Crowd outside KCR’s house
During the investigation the view outside the house was completely different. As soon as the news spread that the SIT had reached his house, BRS workers came out on the streets in his support. When the interrogation was over and the SI officers returned, KCR came out and encouraged his workers. He greeted the crowd gathered outside his residence in Nandi Nagar.
How did the matter come to light?
The matter came into limelight when after the formation of the Congress government in the state, allegations surfaced that the previous BRS government had illegally tapped phones to monitor its political rivals, the judiciary and even its own party MLAs. Several senior police officers, including former Intelligence Chief Pranab Kumar Rao, have already been arrested in this connection.
Chief Minister was interrogated for a long time
This is the first time in Telangana that a person who has held the post of Chief Minister has been interrogated for such a long time in this matter. The sight of KCR encouraging him and his calm demeanor clearly show that he does not believe in being politically backward. Now it remains to be seen what new revelations this SIT inquiry brings and whether it has any impact on the politics of the state.
