On Wednesday (February 4, 2026), the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP), in a joint operation based on accurate intelligence, have killed two terrorists of the terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed, Rubani alias Abu Mawia and Akhtar Chaudhary alias Usman Nikku alias Zubair in the forest of Jofar in Basantgarh tehsil of Udhampur. Both were A++ category terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammed and were active in Jammu and Kashmir for the last 3 years. The killed terrorist Rubani alias Abu Mawiya had infiltrated into India in May 2023. He was also involved in four terrorist attacks.
According to the information, Rubani alias Abu Mawiya, a terrorist belonging to Multan, Pakistan, was trained by Jaish-e-Mohammed in its training camp in Mansehra in the year 2018 and then sent to infiltrate into India in 2023. After infiltration, terrorist Rubani alias Abu Mawia spent some time in Kishtwar and Doda with a 5-member group of Saifullah, another top terrorist of Jaish-e-Mohammed, which also included Usman Nikku, and then in 2025, Abu Mawia, Usman Nikku and Zubair alias Abu Usman, who was killed in Bilwar, Kathua last month, came together in a group and Established himself in Udhampur, Kathua.
Abu Mawia had escaped by dodging the army after 3 encounters.
According to the information, the killed terrorist Abu Mawia was also involved in the murder of two laborers in Bilwar on 16 February. Along with this, last year Abu Mawia had managed to escape by dodging the army during encounters on three occasions and three soldiers were also martyred in the firing. The second terrorist killed along with Abu Mawia, Akhtar Chaudhary alias Usman Nikku, was a resident of Jammu and Kashmir and had gone to Pakistan in 2002 to take terrorism training from Jaish-e-Mohammed, where till 2024, Akhtar Chaudhary alias Usman Nikku stayed in the Bahawalpur headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammed and then infiltrated back into India in February.
Usman Nikku had killed 4 army soldiers in Doda.
Akhtar Chaudhary alias Usman Nikku was part of a group of 5 terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohammed in Doda in July 2024, who ambushed and killed 4 soldiers including Captain Brijesh Thapa and also mutilated the body of Captain Brijesh Thapa. For a long time, the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police and intelligence agencies were searching for these two terrorists and yesterday, on the basis of intelligence information, they surrounded both of them in a cave in the forest of Jofar, where both of them were living for a long time and then today on Wednesday (4th February) morning they were killed in an encounter.
Jaish-e-Mohammed issued statement
After the death of both the terrorists, Jaish-e-Mohammed has issued a statement admitting that Rubani alias Abu Mawia and Chaudhary Akhtar alias Usman Nikku were associated with its organization. In such a situation, today after the operation by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police, the roots of Jaish-e-Mohammed in the Jammu region have definitely weakened, because on one hand, its group of Saifullah, Farman, Basha in Kishtwar is surrounded from all sides by the army cordon, while its group active in Kathua-Bilawar-Udhampur has been killed. After which, now the chief of Jaish-e-Mohammed in Jammu and Kashmir and the adopted son of Maulana Masood Azhar, Wali Hasan, and Bijli Bhai alias Sadiq are the only terrorists left, whose whereabouts are being sought by the security and intelligence agencies of India.
