A major political stir was seen in Hyderabad, the capital of Telangana, on Monday (February 9, 2026). AIMIM chief and MP Asaduddin Owaisi has filed a criminal complaint against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the office of Hyderabad Police Commissioner (CP). In this complaint, Owaisi has based a video recently deleted by Sarma, in which he is seen firing bullets targeting Muslims. Owaisi has termed this video as racist hatred and demanded immediate legal action.
In his complaint, MP Asaduddin Owaisi has said that Himanta Biswa Sarma has been inciting anti-Muslim sentiments through various platforms for a long time, but his recent video is the most worrying. This video went viral on social media, which was later removed by Sarma.
This behavior is not acceptable for a civilized society – Owaisi
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi told in his press conference on Monday (February 9, 2026) that Sarma is shown with a gun in the video and words like ‘point blank shot’ and ‘no mercy’ were used in the caption. He said that this cannot be accepted in any civilized society and is a direct attempt to intimidate the community.
I have lodged an official complaint with @CPHydCity demanding criminal action against Himanta Sarma for his (now deleted) violent video showing him shooting Muslims. Unfortunately, genocidal hate speech has become a norm. pic.twitter.com/o1OVUl6MWk

In his complaint, he cited several previous decisions of the Supreme Court of India and said that the court has already made it clear that spreading hatred against any religion or community is a crime. He demanded from the Police Commissioner that a case should be registered against Sarma under relevant sections of the IPC regarding this video posted from his official account.
Chief Minister of Assam remains the target of opposition on many issues
This is not the first time that Asaduddin Owaisi has targeted Himanta Biswa Sarma. Sarma has reportedly been in controversies due to his statements for quite some time. His tough stance on the issue of NRC and illegal infiltrators in Assam often remains the target of opposition parties. However, this time the matter has gone beyond rhetoric and has reached an alleged violent video, which Owaisi has called a threat to the unity and integrity of the country. This complaint has come at a time when concerns about hate speeches are increasing across the country.
All eyes fixed on action of Hyderabad CP
Now all eyes are on the next step of the Hyderabad Police Commissioner. This complaint of Owaisi has once again raised the question whether the law will be able to do its job in cases of spreading hatred against big leaders of political parties? This matter may gain a lot of importance in the next few days.
