India US Trade Deal: In a major U-turn, the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR) has removed the map of India which had shown Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Aksai Chin within the Indian border. This map was shocking for many people, because before this, PoK had been shown separately in the maps of Washington DC, so that Pakistan’s objections could be taken care of.
This map was posted last week when America announced a trade deal with India. In this map, PoK and Aksai Chin were shown as part of India. After this, there was a lot of discussion whether this was a mistake or a sign of a new phase in India-America relations. Ultimately, putting an end to the debate, the office of the US Trade Representative removed the post completely from its official X account.

Earlier, PoK was usually shown separately in US government maps, which reflected Pakistan’s claim. But the map, which has now been removed, had no such separate line and all the disputed areas were shown within the Indian border.
Till some time ago there was tension between the two countries regarding trade. Now both have agreed to reduce the tariff. America has reduced the tariff on Indian goods from 50 percent to 18 percent, which is the lowest among Asian countries. This decision seems to be opening the way for cooperation between the two countries. Aksai Chin was also shown as part of India in the removed map. Aksai Chin is an area located in north-eastern Ladakh, on which China has been continuously claiming, while India opposes it.
