The suspension of eight opposition MPs suspended from the Lok Sabha during the budget session will not be revoked. According to sources, the suspension of these MPs will not be withdrawn even after a consensus is reached with the opposition to resolve the Lok Sabha deadlock. Besides, action can also be taken against those MPs who created ruckus in the Speaker’s chamber and made a video of it. According to sources in the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the Speaker’s Chamber is a part of the House and video cannot be made here.
Were suspended on February 3
Seven MPs of Congress and one of CPM were suspended on February 3. Their suspension is for the entire budget session, which ends on April 2.
These MPs created a ruckus in protest against not allowing Rahul Gandhi to speak and tore papers and threw them on the chair.
Who are the suspended MPs?
The Lok Sabha MPs who have been suspended include Congress’ Manickam Tagore, Amarinder Singh Raja, Gurjit Singh Aujila, Hibi Eden, Dean Kuriakose, Prashant Padole, Kiran Kumar Reddy and CPM’s S Venkatesan.
Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju told ANI, “…at least 20-25 Congress MPs entered the Lok Sabha Speaker’s chamber and abused him. I was also there. The Speaker is a very soft person, otherwise strict action would have been taken. Senior Congress leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and KC Venugopal, were also present inside, and they were instigating him to fight…”
At the same time, flaws have been found in the notice given for the removal of the Lok Sabha Speaker. According to ANI, in the notice given regarding the no-confidence motion, the events of February 2025 have been mentioned four times, on the basis of which it can be rejected as per the rules. However, the Speaker has instructed the Secretariat to take further action after removing the shortcomings of the notice.
According to the report, the notice will be listed after the beginning of the second phase of the budget session. After receiving the changed notice, it will be investigated as per the prescribed rules.
