Delhi’s NIA court, while giving a major verdict in the 2016 terrorist case, has sentenced two overground workers to 15 years each. Both of them were accused of helping a dangerous terrorist of Pakistan-backed banned terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba. The culprits have been identified as Zahoor Ahmed Peer and Nazir Ahmed Peer, residents of Handwara in Kupwara district.
NIA court sentenced the culprits under UAPA
The NIA court sentenced both of them to 15-15 years in jail under sections 18 and 19 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act i.e. UAPA. Additionally, an additional punishment of 9 years was given under Section 39, but all the sentences will run concurrently. A total fine of Rs 1.5 lakh has also been imposed on both of them.

This case is related to Pakistani terrorist Bahadur Ali alias Saifullah, who entered Kashmir in 2016. Investigation revealed that both the accused had provided safe shelter, food and essential items to the terrorist to hide. Not only this, he also made the terrorist meet other terrorists.
Terrorists were in contact with handlers sitting in PoK
According to the investigating agency, the terrorists were equipped with weapons, explosives, night vision and communication equipment and were in constant touch with the handlers sitting in Pakistan and PoK. They were planning major terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country. However, his plan failed after the arrest of Bahadur Ali on July 25, 2016, while two of his associates were killed in the encounter.
