‘Indian farmers betrayed in the name of US trade deal’, Rahul Gandhi asked these 5 questions to PM Modi

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has again raised questions on the trade deal between America and India. Rahul Gandhi has asked five questions to PM Modi. Rahul Gandhi has termed this trade deal with America as a betrayal of the farmers. Rahul Gandhi has cornered the government by sharing a long post on social media.

Rahul Gandhi, while posting on X, said that in the name of US trade deal, we are seeing betrayal of Indian farmers. I want to ask some simple questions to the Prime Minister.

Five questions of Rahul Gandhi, which he asked the government

  1. What exactly does it mean to import DDG? Does this mean Indian cattle will be fed distillers grains made from GM American corn? Wouldn’t this make our milk products effectively dependent on the American agriculture industry?
  2. If we allow import of GM soya oil, what will happen to our soya farmers in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and across the country? How will they withstand another price shock?
  3. When you say additional products, what does that include? Is this a sign of pressure to open up pulses and other crops to US imports over time?
  4. What does it mean to remove non-trade barriers? Will India be pressured in future to loosen its stance on GM crops, weaken procurement or reduce MSP and bonuses?
  5. Once this door has opened, how do we stop it from opening further every year? Will this be prevented, or will more crops gradually be put on the table in the deal each time?

Farmers should get clarification on these issues

Apart from these questions, Rahul Gandhi has said that farmers should definitely get this clarification. This is not just about today. This is also a matter of the future. Are we allowing any other country to have a long-term hold on India’s agriculture industry?
