Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Dr. Mohan Bhagwat, while addressing a seminar organized in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, said that Kutumb is seen only in India, this deal is done in other countries. In India, the specialty is the relationship built on familiarity, in foreign countries the relationship is not like that, it is a relationship of deal. Here the child gets his own family, whereas this is not the case in foreign countries. When they grow up there, they become free from their families. Family is the center of social education, center of economic activities and transfer of culture from generation to generation. Mother is the center of the family. It is a woman who prepares the generation. This is how Mother India is introduced.
He said that we are sons of Mother India. In our country, women are seen from the point of view of mothers, except those to whom they are married, but this is not the case in foreign countries, there women are seen from the point of view of wives. Whatever relationship developed later, it was formed. Our vision is not just ideological, it should translate into conduct. This is our tradition, which comes from the family. Here our family is bigger than the individual. In foreign countries the individual is bigger than the family. We consider marriage as a duty, not a contract. If there are no values in the house, then religious conversion will happen.
Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat about the importance of family
On Monday (February 16, 2026), RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat told people about the importance of family in the ‘Kutumb Sneh Milan’ program at Baba Gambhirnath Auditorium in Ramgarhtal of Gorakhpur district. He said that today we have come for the Kutumb Sneh Milan program. A man and woman living under one roof and four walls do not constitute a family. There is a relationship in a family, in which there is a sense of belonging. A few moments after the birth of the baby, a bond of familiarity is gradually formed with the family members. Family is a unit for the next generation to become social. Training on how to live in society takes place in the family.
He said that society runs because of family. Family is also the reason for filling the stomach. The basis of business is family. Production, saving of money, the wealth of the nation all lies in the family. The nation’s wealth is also accumulated in the family.
If the family does not support, the Sangh would not have stood: Sangh Chief
Giving the example of this through Lal Bahadur Shastri ji, Mohan Bhagwat had appealed to the people to give their gold, silver etc., so people gave it for the nation. He said that I am not alone, but we all are. Therefore, I will not consider only my needs. This is taught in the family. If there was no support from the family, the Sangh would not have been formed.
He said that if there is support from the family, any society becomes great. If you want to know the Sangh, then see the Sangh branch. Look at the Sangh volunteer, look at the family of the Sangh volunteer. Whatever we do, we put it into practice. It is very difficult to describe the Sangh in words. When this thought came that the world is running on the basis of deals, problems started arising.
Organize family reunion programs on small scale: Bhagwat
Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat said that if the society is to change, then change will have to be brought in the family. Our family should be fasting. Food, clothing, shelter, health education and hospitality are the essential needs of the family. This should happen. Organize family get-togethers on a small scale, 2-3 times a year. Meeting in small groups and discussing in them will remove the illusions brought about by westernisation. Society changes its behavior when it sees the work of the householder. Sangh volunteers must be five steps ahead of the society. ‘Punch Parivartan’ is not to be kept in speech, it has to be brought into practice itself. We have to rise above all odds. We should have a friend in all the varieties within our reach.
He said that we have to take care of the environment from our home, which we can do. Don’t do anything separately. Save water, remove plastic, plant trees. Language, dress, buildings, food and hymns should be our own. Language brings emotion. Speaking in one’s mother tongue at home, knowing the language of the province one lives in and having a language at the national level which can be useful for everyone. We should know how to wear dhoti.
Discussing it from milk drinking children to adults: Sangh chief
The Sangh chief said that traditional food suits us, home food, our food. Consider what the picture should be like in the house. Pictures of our idols must be present in our homes. Using Swadeshi as far as possible. To follow the rules. May all this be understood. For this, everyone should sit together once a week. Discussing it from babies drinking milk to adults. Whatever is agreed upon, put it into practice. Let us do a good work for the society every day. What can be done, think about it and do it. This will be visible in the conduct of the person and the conduct of the family. Therefore, there should be a meeting of families 2-3 times a year, due to which change will be seen in the society.
