There is an atmosphere of tension in Torruru Municipality of Mahabubabad district of Telangana regarding the election of Chairman and Vice-Chairman. It seems that this is not a preparation for the election of Chairman and Vice-Chairman but a preparation for some war. In fact, a large number of around 500 policemen have been deployed for this important election process to be held on February 17 at 12:30 pm. District SP Shabarish himself reached the spot and took the responsibility of handling the situation so that no unwanted incident happens.
Recently, in the municipal elections held on February 11, BRS won 9 seats out of total 16 wards in Torruru, while Congress got 7 seats. But after adding the votes of ex-official members (MLAs and MPs), Congress’s tally also reached 9. Due to this, the votes of both the parties became equal and the situation came to a standstill. The BRS party is claiming its majority, while the Congress is trying to get the chair on the basis of ex-official votes. Due to this there were heated debates and clashes between the two parties.
Section 144 imposed around the office
Section 144 was imposed up to 200 meters around the municipality office. When the situation worsened on Monday, former minister Errabeli Dayakar Rao got into an argument with the police while trying to enter the office. There was a scuffle between the workers and lathicharge also took place. Due to this confusion, the election was postponed and was scheduled for Tuesday i.e. 17th February.
Congress performed well
Congress performed well in a total of 116 municipalities in Telangana, but political tension was visible in crowded places like Torruru. Rumors of some councilors switching parties from BRS also heated up the atmosphere. SP Shabarish talked to the leaders of both the parties and appealed to maintain peace. Security forces have been kept ready.

This election reflects the tough competition going on between the ruling party and the opposition in the local body politics of Telangana. No matter which way the result goes, this incident is considered very important politically.
