AI in Indian Army: In order to strengthen technological self-reliance and secure digital infrastructure in India, the Indian Army is rapidly incorporating Artificial Intelligence into its structure. During the recently held India AI Summit, the Army introduced several indigenous AI solutions that can be used in both military and civilian sectors.
Role of AI from education to mission planning
Key systems demonstrated by the Army include AI Examiner which is an automated assessment tool. It integrates with the learning management system to check submissions and generate systematic feedback. This can speed up and bring transparency in training and educational processes.
The Situational Awareness Module, called SAM-UN, combines geospatial data and AI analysis to aid mission planning. This system can also prove useful in disaster management centers and smart city control rooms.
Secure and indigenous AI platform
EKAM is a secure AI-as-a-Service platform that works in an air-gapped environment. This means that it provides services like chat, translation, summarization and document creation independently of the Internet while the data remains secure within the country.
PRAKSHEPAN has been described as the country’s first hybrid military climate decision-support system. It can predict natural disasters like landslides, floods and avalanches up to a week in advance, which helps border areas and disaster management agencies to prepare in time.
Emphasis on cyber security and information protection
Security solutions include a face recognition system called XFace, deepfake video recognition technology, active mobile security systems and machine learning based web application firewalls. Their objective is to protect critical digital infrastructure from cyber threats and misinformation campaigns.
New strength in field operations and logistics
Nabh Drishti helps in real-time telemetry reporting keeping in mind the operational needs. Tools like driver fatigue detection tools, portable AI-in-a-Box edge computing platforms and AI-enabled vehicle tracking systems improve logistics, monitoring and preparedness in the field.
Initiative beneficial to both military and civilians
It is clear from all these indigenous technologies that the Indian Army is moving towards a secure, network-based and AI-driven ecosystem. This initiative not only strengthens defense preparedness but can also significantly contribute to disaster management, cyber security and security of national digital infrastructure.
