Sri Lankan President Anuar Kumara Dissanayake Called Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi was present in Colombo during the match between India and Pakistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. This match between these two countries happened after drama. Pakistan first threatened to boycott the match with India Yes, but then changed his decision. This dispute started on 1 February and ended late night on 9 February. After this, the Pakistan government gave permission to its cricket team to play against India on 15 February.
Before the PCB’s U-turn, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief Aminul Islam Bulbul had appealed to Pakistan to play the match and Sri Lankan President Anur Kumara Dissanayake had also called Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
Mohsin Naqvi called Sri Lankan President a ‘real hero’
After the India-Pakistan match, Mohsin Naqvi called the Sri Lankan President a ‘real hero’. Naqvi said in his meeting with Sri Lankan President Anur Kumara Dissanayake, ‘First of all, warm greetings to you from the President (Asif Ali Zardari) and Prime Minister (Shahbaz Sharif) of Pakistan. He specifically asked me to convey his best wishes to you. Actually, you were the real hero in yesterday’s match, because because of you 2 billion people were entertained. It was only because of you that we were able to play the match.
Naqvi further said, ‘We had many problems regarding playing with India, but as soon as the Prime Minister received your call, he called me and said, ‘There is no problem now… we just have to play the match.’ I am very grateful to you that you played an important role in this.

Sri Lankan President called the Prime Minister of Pakistan
Sri Lankan President Anur Kumara Dissanayake had also called Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, after which the Pakistan government said in its statement, ‘The Sri Lankan President requested the Prime Minister to seriously consider resolving the current impasse amicably. During their warm conversation, he recalled that Pakistan and Sri Lanka have always stood by each other, especially in difficult times.
