During the India AI Impact Summit 2026 held in Delhi, perhaps no other stall garnered as much discussion as a robodog. But this discussion happened because of controversy. Galgotias University, located in Greater Noida, had arrived at its stall with a robodog, which was named ‘Orion’. Initially this was presented as a major achievement of the university, but soon the matter became complicated.
After the controversy escalated, the university clarified that it never claimed that it had created the robodog. This was just part of their AI investment and was brought in for demonstration. Another professor, while talking to the media, said that the matter has been misunderstood. The company logo was also not hidden.

Meanwhile, actor and stand-up comedian Vir Das also took a taunt on social media platform X and wrote, ‘Nothing is original, when you think about it. Humans are creations in themselves that interact and emerge in new forms, all this has been created by the great Galgotias University in the sky.

Not only this, while sharing the picture of a real desi dog, Veer Das jokingly wrote that ‘I want to use this opportunity to encourage everyone to adopt a desi dog. They are very cute. Let us tell you that a video went viral on social media, in which a university professor was enumerating the qualities of this robotic dog. It was told that it can monitor the campus, move around and do many types of surveillance work. But some tech experts immediately recognized that this machine is from Chinese company Unity Robots, which is already available in the market. After this questions started being raised on social media. People alleged that the university was presenting a foreign product as its own. After this the matter reached the organizers of the summit and the university was asked to withdraw from the summit. However, no official information has been received from the university.
