‘Made me and also destroyed me’, success of Gangs of Wasseypur became a burden for Anurag Kashyap

There are some films in Hindi cinema which are not only a hit, but become both a boon and a burden for their producer. Famous director Anurag Kashyap is feeling similar these days about his own superhit film ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’. He says that this film gave him identity and the same identity has also limited him. Recently, in an interview, Anurag openly said that apart from Farhan Akhtar and Karan Johar, there would hardly be any other director in the industry who gets selfies done with more people than him. But most people still know him only by the name of the director of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’.

Wasseypur’s third part will not be made

While talking to The Hollywood Reporter India, Anurag told that till now he has made many films, short films, web shows and has also done acting. Despite this, when people meet him, they ask only one question, ‘Sir, when are you making Wasseypur 3?’ He clearly said that he will not make the third part, because he does not want to make a film just to fulfill the expectations of the audience. He did not enter the world of films to join the race to become a successful director. He wanted to tell stories, do new experiments. For this he is ready to bear commercial loss also.

Sniper came in 2 parts due to Wasseypur

Referring to his recent film Nishanchi, Anurag said that it was a crime comedy made in two parts. The shadow of ‘Wassepur’ fell on this film also. Initially it was planned to be released on OTT platform Prime Video, but due to ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ it was released in theaters in two parts. However it was not successful. The first part of the film could not earn much at the box office. Later, when both the parts came together on OTT, people who saw the film thought it better.

Made me and destroyed me…

After the reaction of the sniper, Anurag started questioning himself whether his voice is no longer as effective as before? What bothers him is that every family or gangster story is compared to ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’. Hollywood director Francis Ford Coppola said about his classic film The Godfather, ‘It both made me and destroyed me.’ Anurag also feels the same about ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’.
