Donald Trump On Tariff: ‘India will pay tariff, but America will not…’ Trump’s big claim after Supreme Court’s decision

US President Donald Trump has given a big statement regarding the trade agreement with India. He said that this agreement has completely changed compared to before and now India will give tariff to America, while America will not give any tariff to India. Trump said, ‘Nothing has changed. They will give tariffs and we will not give tariffs. Describing this as a contrary arrangement to the old structure, he said, ‘The deal with India is that they will pay the tariff. It was not like this earlier. We have overturned it.

According to PTI report, Trump also personally praised Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said, ‘I think Prime Minister Modi is a wonderful gentleman and a great person, but he was much smarter than America. India was harming us. However, he also said that now the new arrangement is a fair deal.

Supreme Court rejects President’s interpretation on IEEPA

Meanwhile, the US Supreme Court has raised questions on the decision of the Trump administration, in which it was claimed that the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) gives the President the right to impose tariffs. Chief Justice John Roberts, citing an earlier decision, said that the President must show parliamentary approval to take extraordinary measures like tariffs. He said in clear words, ‘The President cannot do this.’ The court accepted that imposing unilateral tariffs under the guise of IEEPA could be interference in the jurisdiction of Congress and is a violation.

Challenge of states and businessmen

The decision came after legal challenges were filed by businesses affected by the tariffs and 12 states. Most of these states are ruled by the Democratic Party. He had accused the Trump administration that the President has imposed tariffs without the approval of Congress.
