AI Summit ruckus: Bail applications of four Youth Congress workers rejected, 5 days police remand to the accused

Four Youth Congress workers arrested for protesting outside Bharat Mandapam during the AI Summit were produced in the Patiala House Court on Saturday. The court has sent all four on police remand for five days. The court, while allowing interrogation in the custody of Delhi Police, also rejected the bail applications of the four accused, after which they were handed over to police custody for further investigation.

Delhi Police presented Krishna Hari, Kundan Yadav, Ajay Kumar and Narasimha Yadav in the court of Judicial Magistrate Ravi and sought five-day police remand. At the same time, the defense side strongly opposed the remand, calling it a peaceful demonstration.

Under which sections the case was registered
Delhi Police has registered a case against the accused under section 132 of BNS and other sections. All sections are said to be related to punishment of less than seven years. Police say that the accused demonstrated during the AI Summit at a place where foreign representatives were present in large numbers.

Police allegation- anti-national slogans and clashes
The prosecution claimed in the court that during the demonstration the accused raised anti-national and ‘divisive’ slogans. According to the police, the accused waved T-shirts with the Prime Minister’s photo printed on them and when they tried to stop them, they pushed the policemen, resulting in injuries to three to four soldiers.

The government lawyer also said that the mobile phones of the accused have been seized and they are residents of different states. For investigation, it is necessary to go to their states and investigate the facts related to the conspiracy, funding source and printing of T-shirts.

Defense’s argument- the protest was peaceful
The lawyer of the accused told the court that the four activists were associated with an opposition political party and were protesting peacefully. He said that there is no concrete evidence of anyone being hurt and protesting is a constitutional right.

The lawyer termed the demand for police remand as unnecessary and said that this action is going to hurt the dignity of democracy. He also argued that if arrests are made on the basis of demonstration, then the same action should be taken against the leaders protesting in Parliament.

Hearing on bail application also
Bail petition was filed in the court on behalf of all four accused. The defense said that all the accused are young and their future is at stake. Whereas Delhi Police opposed the bail and said that considering the seriousness of the case, further investigation is necessary. After hearing the arguments of both the parties, the court reserved its decision on remand and bail.

Political atmosphere is also hot
Meanwhile, political turmoil also remained intense in the capital. There is news of BJP workers also being detained. It was told that some workers were trying to break the RAF barricades and move towards the Congress headquarters.
