Expressing strong objection, he has also raised questions about the silence of the Muftis and Maulanas of the country. The Taliban government of Afghanistan has recently implemented a new penal code. Under this, women have been given almost slave status. There now husbands have free rein to physically harass their wives.

While posting on X, he wrote that Taliban has now legalized wife beating. The only condition is that no bones should be broken. He wrote that if a woman goes to her maternal home even without the consent of her husband, she will have to face three months in jail. Javed Akhtar asked why the Muftis and Mullahs of India are silent on this? He appealed to condemn it without any strings and conditions. All this is being done under the guise of religion.

Javed Akhtar wrote in his post that whatever be the political gain, we should not give any trust or respect to these ill-mannered barbaric Taliban. They are the trash of the world.
