Telangana BJP president N Ramachandra Rao was put under house arrest late Saturday night ahead of his proposed visit to Kamareddy on Sunday (February 22). Talking on the phone, Rao said that the police has put me under house arrest tonight.
Tension increased in Kamareddy after alleged Congress workers attacked the camp office of BJP MLA Kattipalli Venkata Ramana Reddy. Rao had planned to meet the victims of stone pelting in Banswara. On 20-21 February, violent clashes took place between BJP and Congress workers in Kamareddy town.
The tension erupted over the controversy over the government degree college land, in which BJP MLA Katipalli Venkata Ramana Reddy alleged that Congress leaders, especially Shabbir Ali, were illegally selling or encroaching on the land.
Many leaders were injured during stone pelting
According to ANI, during the protest on Saturday, a Congress leader’s car was overturned and stones were pelted, due to which several party leaders were injured. Telangana BJP also condemned the arrest of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha leaders who were planning to protest against the alleged misbehavior of Youth Congress workers during the AI Summit held in Delhi.
Rao argued that being prevented from meeting the victims of violence was a message that the government would not allow the opposition to stand with the citizens. Rao confirmed over the phone that he has been placed under house arrest at his residence in Tarnaka.
