A big update came out on MS Dhoni playing in IPL 2026. Earlier it was reported that Mahi is ready to play the next season of the Indian Premier League for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). But in the new update it was mentioned that Dhoni will not play the entire matches of the upcoming season. This update is indicating Mahi’s retirement from IPL.
Let us tell you that before the auction, Chennai had made its share through Sanju Samson in the trade deal. Now the update of Dhoni not playing the entire league match as soon as Sanju joined the team is really forcing one to think.
Approval to play next season
Speaking to news agency PTI, a top source of Chennai Super Kings said, “We can confirm that he is coming to Chennai and he has confirmed his availability for this season.”
Will not play the entire match
Dhoni will play next season but he will not play all 14 league matches. Quoting PTI, it was told that Dhoni will play the next season, but will not be seen in all the 14 matches of the league.
Dhoni handles the responsibility of wicketkeeping for Chennai. But now with Sanju joining the team, the responsibility of wicketkeeping may be removed from Dhoni. Along with this, even if he misses a few matches, the team will not suffer much loss. However, no official update has come yet regarding Dhoni not playing all the league matches.
Dhoni’s performance in 2025 IPL
It is noteworthy that Dhoni played a total of 14 matches in the last season i.e. 2025 IPL, in which he scored 196 runs at a strike rate of 135.17 while batting in 13 innings. During this period, Mahi’s high score was 30* runs. 12 fours and 12 sixes came from his bat.
